UKATA 15 years Excellence Awards – Raddison Blue Hotel East Midlands Airport – 07.07.23

DSK were delighted to receive the Certificate of Achievement for the Industry Associate Of The Year.  To be a finalist for this award was an honour and we want to congratulate RoundWorksIT Ltd for receiving the award and all the Winners and Finalists.  Very well deserved. Thanks to the Judges Ben Chambers, Yvonne Waterman and Anna Melton for giving us the recognition, it means a lot to us as a company that what we do is noticed and we are forever grateful for the support.

Thanks to host Kriss Akabusi MBE the British Olympian, Motivational Speaker and Businessman, whom it was a pleasure to meet.  His energy was infectious, fun and very entertaining.  A truly great guy.

To the speakers at the AGM – you did a superb job, as we arrived quite late on we were only able to see the following;

Liz Darlison – MBE, Nurse consultant and CEO of Mesothelioma UK.  The wealth of knowledge she has shone through and her passion for raising awareness to Mesothelioma is remarkable and incredibly inspiring.  It was good to learn the main office is based near Loughborough – Kirsty’s home town.  DSK are looking forward to visiting one day.  To support Mesothelioma UK you can do so on the following website – www.mesothelioma.uk.com

Yvonne Waterman, MFAAM, President of the EAF Foundation and runs the niche law firm Waterman Legal Consultancy in the Netherlands which specialises in all things pertaining to asbestos, asbestos law and employers’ liability law. Yvonne is extremely focused on the importance of bringing to justice those who have turned a blind eye to the dangers surrounding asbestos and have contributed to so many deaths due to asbestos related diseases which most certainly could have been avoided by bringing closure to factories still using this incredibly dangerous product.  She kindly auctioned off a flag she managed to obtain in Italy shown on the photos.  The words translated mean ‘Eternit (give us) Justice’.  All proceeds go to the Mavis Nye Foundation.  The speech was fantastic and a great insight into the work Yvonne does.

Well done to Steve Peacock Operations Director from Prime Safety (Our fantastic training providers) for winning the bid Steve is also on the Board of Directors for UKATA.

Helen Bone – Advanced Clinical Practitioner.  Sadly, Helen was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma, an incurable cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos and forms in the lining of the lungs.  Based in the critical care at the James Cook University Hospital she has devoted her working career to helping others and speaking briefly on her story it was clear to see how much family is important to her including her supportive Husband Mark and their 3 Daughters.  Helen is proof that Mesothelioma is not an ‘old mans disease’ and can affect anyone whom is unfortunate to come into contact with asbestos exposure.  Her humour (which she states she gets from her wise Nan) was incredible and light hearted.  Helen has created a blog to help others effected (testament to her that even whilst going through her own battle is devoted to helping others) You can find Helen’s blog by following this link – https://helenbone82.wixsite.com/itiswhatitis.

Big thanks to Graham, Craig, Debbie and all the team at UKATA you really did yourselves proud.  Bravo!  A delightful event very well orchestrated we had a fantastic time, and it was lovely to see you all, thanks for allowing us to be part of your highly successful association. All you stand for and the incredible work you do is highly commendable, and we are honoured to have been amongst the sponsors of such a fantastic event.

Lastly but most certainly not least, a huge thankyou to Mavis and Ray Nye who travelled with us on the long journey to the awards.  We always have a great time with you both. You inspire us all and are testament to Love, Strength and Determination.  We know this trip wasn’t easy and very tiring, but you stuck with it like the troopers way into the night!  You are true legends, and we are honoured to have you as our friends.  Congratulations on your lifetime achievement award – extremely well deserved and we are all very proud of you both.

Ray is an incredible painter and kindly auctioned off one of his wonderful paintings.  This raised £180.00 with proceeds going to the Mavis Nye Foundation.  For anyone wanting to support the foundation you can do so by the following website, all your support is greatly appreciated. www.mavisnyefoundation.com
